BaltiQWERT

What’s a QWERT? Come and find out!

The works of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan (known as “G&S”) have been popular in the English-speaking (and singing) world since the initial collaboration of the two in 1871. Generations of families, professionals and theater-lovers have performed the G&S comic operas, and there have been several popular movies based on them, most recently “Topsy-Turvy."

A "QWERT" is where G&S fans gather and sing through some or all of the operas, with scores in hand, to piano accompaniment. There’s no staging, and none of the dialogue is done, so each opera doesn’t take all that long. It's fun, fun, fun!

We have been offering these for years in Baltimore — therefore the function is called a BaltiQWERT! And this spring we offer the 14th BaltiQWERT, being held on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 10 am - 5 pm-ish, in the wonderful sanctuary of The Corner Community Center, 5802 Roland Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21210.

The 14th BaltiQWERT schedule is:
10 am: Trial By Jury ("Hark, the hour of ten is sounding!")
Princess Ida
LUNCH BREAK
The Sorcerer
The Mikado
Iolanthe
The Madrigal from Act I of Ruddigore

About 40 singers from all over the eastern United States are participating this time. Some are brand new to G&S; some have been performing G&S for DECADES; some are amateurs and others are professionals — but all are looking forward to a wonderfully fulfilling day.

Best of all, anyone who just wants to experience this is very welcome to attend and watch — it’s totally informal; there is no admission fee and plenty of comfortable seating!

So -- COME JOIN THE QWERT!
